KUKA and Reis on the “World of Energy Solutions”

From production of the contacts as mixed composition to the finished battery pack: On the international trade fair for battery and energy storing technologies “World of Energy Solutions – Battery+Storage” (6 to 8-October in Stuttgart/Germany – Hall 2, booth B18) KUKA Systems GmbH and Reis together present their performance and technology range for the fully automated battery production.

For economically priced batteries of the latest generation the manufacturers of electric energy storing units rely on the concentrated know-how of KUKA Systems and Reis: The specialists for robot technology and automated production systems develop special machines and turnkey solutions together by means of which battery cells, battery modules, and complete battery packs can be produced at a reasonable price.

The technical processes required for this are highly sophisticated. For production of the battery contacts, for example, aluminum and copper have to be welded together. The necessary insulating of battery cells required for the production process also requires special know-how. KUKA Systems and Reis could transfer their long years of experience in related industries – e.g. production lines for solar modules – successfully to the requirements of battery production. For battery manufacturers this means a high process quality, for example for laser welding, gluing, or pressing in automated module production. Or for production of battery packs, if cables are fabricated in the production line, battery modules are screwed, or finished units are checked for tightness.

Interested professional visitors get an insight into the processes of module production at the common booth of KUKA Systems and Reis: A robot type KR Agilus exemplarily demonstrates handling of battery cells in combination with measuring technique, integrating a cleaning process and following stacking.

Systems for battery production from KUKA and Reis are in use worldwide, among others in China and in the USA. These also include single process cells such as friction welding machines, laser cells, gluing and welding cells. The sites of KUKA and Reis in China are in a position to perform the system integration for module lines and guarantee the commissioning and the after-sales service.
